Interactions with the Earth
The oceans surrounding Japan play a major role in the creation of the Japanese temperate rainforest. Japan is a country spread throughout several islands separated by bodies of water. This means the Japanese temperate rainforest is found among various parts of Japan. The oceans around Japan bring in plenty of precipitation through oceanic circulation and the rain shadow effect. This allows for the vegetation in the Japanese rainforest to thrive.
Japan is located higher north of the Equator. This means Japan gets mild temperatures since the sunlight is not directly focused on Japan, but also not too spread out. This allows for wildlife in the Japanese temperate rainforest to live and grow in comfortable conditions.
Japan is located on top of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Japan experiences the effects of the shifting of these plates mainly through earthquakes, and also the tsunamis that come as a result of earthquakes. This impacts Japan's geography, therefore impacting the Japanese rainforest's geography.
