Human Activity
Traditionally, the Japanese people lived with and respected the forest. However, during times of industry and war, much of the forest would need to be cut down. Due to government policies and economic development, the cutting of the forest increased while natural forest growth has declined. Today, Japan is going back to the idea of growing plantation/secondary forests and maintaining the rest of the remaining forests. Government regulations now work in order to preserve the Japanese temperate rainforest.
