Atmosphere
Earth’s atmosphere is a layer of gases surrounding the Earth. The atmosphere is responsible for trapping solar radiation from the sun, which warms the earth (greenhouse effect). Its composition of gases is about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% of other gases including argon, carbon and water vapor. The atmosphere is divided into 5 layers, from highest to lowest, which are the exosphere (> 700 km), thermosphere (80-700 km), mesosphere (50-80 km), stratosphere (12-50 km) and the troposphere (0-12 km).
